ADC Warns Against Divisive Loyalty Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned its supporters against adopting a “must-be-my-candidate” mindset, which could potentially undermine the party’s chances in the 2027 elections. According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, such divisive loyalty could hinder the party’s presidential bid. Abdullahi emphasized the importance of unity and urged supporters to back all aspirants collectively.

The warning was issued during the virtual ‘ADC Coalition Hours’ on Saturday, as the party prepares for the upcoming elections. The ADC has been gaining momentum since it was adopted by opposition figures in July 2025, with the aim of challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the party has been strengthening its structures nationwide and working to gain the trust and support of Nigerians.

Several high-profile politicians have joined the ADC, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, all of whom have expressed interest in contesting for the party’s presidential ticket. Additional aspirants are expected to announce their candidacies in the coming weeks, which may further fuel debates on zoning and the party’s presidential nomination process.

Abdullahi revealed that he has met with coalition stakeholders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, to emphasize the need for unity and collective commitment to secure victory in the upcoming elections. The party’s leaders are reportedly aware of the task ahead and are committed to ensuring the party’s success.

As the ADC prepares for the 2027 elections, the party’s ability to maintain unity and present a strong, cohesive front will be crucial in determining its chances of success. With several high-profile aspirants vying for the presidential ticket, the party must navigate internal debates and divisions while maintaining a focus on its ultimate goal: winning the election and bringing about positive change in the country. The ADC’s efforts to strengthen its structures and gain the trust of Nigerians will be closely watched in the coming months, as the party seeks to establish itself as a viable alternative to the incumbent government.
