Bandits kill six in Niger village attack near national park

A recent attack by suspected bandits in Niger State, Nigeria, has resulted in the loss of six lives. The incident occurred in Damala village, located near the Wawa National Park forest, in the Borgu Local Government Area. According to the Niger State Police Command, the attack took place on Thursday at approximately 12:00 p.m.

The victims included a farmer, Deshi, and his son, who were on their way to visit workers on their farm in Damala village. The son managed to escape the attack and returned home, where he informed relatives and community members about the incident. A search party, comprising relatives and vigilante members, was subsequently formed to look for Deshi. However, they were also attacked by the assailants.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Niger, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria. He stated that security operatives were deployed to the scene on Friday at around 9:00 a.m., where six bodies were recovered. The police are currently investigating the incident, and efforts are being made to apprehend the perpetrators.

The attack is the latest in a series of security challenges facing Niger State, particularly in the Borgu Local Government Area. The region has experienced frequent incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery, resulting in loss of lives and displacement of communities. The Nigerian government has been working to address these security concerns, with the deployment of security personnel and equipment to affected areas.

The incident in Damala village highlights the need for continued efforts to enhance security in rural areas and protect communities from armed attacks. The police and other security agencies are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. As the investigation continues, the authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
