Peter Obi Boosts ADC Membership in Anambra

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State has experienced a significant surge in membership since former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi joined the party on December 31. According to the party’s chairman, Mr. Patrick Obianyo, the influx of new members has been steady, with party officials receiving requests daily to visit and welcome politicians into the party.

At a recent event held to receive Hon. Barr. Lawrence Ezeudu, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, and over 200 of his supporters, Obianyo noted that the party has been busy receiving new members. “We are here today in Ifitedunu, in Dunukofia Local Government Area, to receive Hon. Barr. Lawrence Ezeudu. Tomorrow we will be in another location, and it has continued like that for over a month now,” he said.

Obianyo encouraged new members to register at their wards, where they will be physically captured and recognized as members. He also announced plans to conduct a membership revalidation and introduce new features in the party’s membership cards. Despite the high demand for membership cards, Obianyo assured that the party will have enough cards for all members, even if the entire Nigerian population were to join.

Ezeudu, who defected to the ADC, expressed his enthusiasm for joining the party, stating that he had never felt a stronger need to join a political party. He cited the failure of the APC and the need to save the country from further damage. “I want to announce that we in the ADC are desperate to change Nigeria, and having taken time to study the configuration of the country, I can tell you that a new Nigeria is still possible,” he said.

The defection event was attended by top ADC members, including the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, and other chieftains such as Prof. Chinyere Okunna and Dr. Chris Asoukwu. The event highlights the growing momentum of the ADC in Anambra State, following Peter Obi’s joining of the party. As the party continues to receive new members, it is likely to play a significant role in the country’s political landscape.
