Kwara Curfew Imposed Amid Banditry Crackdown

Kwara State Imposes Curfew on Communities to Combat Banditry and Kidnapping

The local government councils of Edu and Ifelodun in Kwara State have implemented a 24-hour curfew in certain areas as part of intensified security measures to tackle banditry and kidnapping. The curfew, which restricts all human and vehicular movement, aims to support ongoing security clearance operations in the region.

In Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA), the curfew covers the entire Oro-ago District, effective from 6 a.m. on January 28, 2026. According to Abdulquadri Jimba, Chief Press Secretary to the council chairman, the measure is designed to disrupt terrorist activities and protect lives and property. During the curfew period, no human or vehicular traffic will be allowed in the district.

Similarly, the Edu LGA Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Gbugbu community, including its international market, starting from 6 p.m. on January 27, 2026. The council’s media team stated that the curfew is part of the measures to safeguard lives and property as security forces continue their operations in the area.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed that the curfew is yielding positive results. He explained that the measure will help track and apprehend criminal elements attempting to escape with their families and identify their informants within the communities. The curfew is a crucial aspect of the ongoing security clearance operation in the area.

The implementation of the curfew is a response to the growing concerns over banditry and kidnapping in the region. The security forces are working to restore peace and stability in the affected communities. The curfew will be reviewed and updated as necessary to ensure the safety of residents and the success of the security operations.

The move by the local government councils and security agencies demonstrates their commitment to addressing the security challenges in Kwara State. As the situation continues to unfold, residents are advised to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the curfew to ensure their safety and the effectiveness of the security measures.
