Burna Boy reveals resolving feud with late AKA before death

Nigerian singer Burna Boy has revealed that he and late South African rapper AKA had resolved their long-standing feud before AKA’s death. The two artists had a public falling out in 2019, sparked by AKA’s comments on xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa. Burna Boy had threatened to confront AKA if they ever met, but it appears they had since made amends via private Twitter messages.

In a birthday tribute to AKA on Instagram, Burna Boy expressed regret that they did not have the opportunity to collaborate or meet in person before AKA’s passing. He wrote, “We fell out over bullsh*t… we never got the chance to really link up and do what we were supposed to do. I will regret that until I see you again.”

AKA was shot and killed outside a restaurant in Durban, South Africa on February 10, 2023. The investigation into his murder is ongoing. The feud between Burna Boy and AKA had begun after AKA shared screenshots of hate messages he allegedly received from Nigerian accounts following a banter about an AFCON quarterfinal match. Burna Boy had responded with a threat, which sparked a wider controversy.

Despite their differences, it appears that the two artists had put their feud behind them. Burna Boy’s tribute to AKA highlights the complexities of their relationship and the opportunities that were lost due to AKA’s untimely death. The incident serves as a reminder of the impact of social media on celebrity relationships and the importance of resolving conflicts amicably.

The music industry has been shaken by AKA’s death, and his legacy continues to be felt. As the trial into his murder continues, fans and fellow artists are still coming to terms with the loss of a talented and influential figure. Burna Boy’s revelation about his feud with AKA adds a new layer to the story, highlighting the complexities of celebrity relationships and the importance of forgiveness and collaboration.
