The Federal Government of Nigeria’s Power Company has initiated a collaborative effort with the Kwara State Government to enhance power supply across the state. This development was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Ministry of Energy’s conference room in Ilorin, the state capital. The meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Energy, representatives of the FGN Power Company, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Rukayat Abdulhameed, the Commissioner for Energy assured all parties of the state government’s support for the initiative. The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Olaitan Afolabi, represented the Commissioner and described the project as a “laudable Federal Government initiative.” He noted that the state government is working to improve the economic, social, and infrastructural development of the state.
Afolabi highlighted the importance of power supply in driving development and stated that the state government is taking necessary steps to enhance social, economic, and infrastructural growth. He cited the installation of 34 transformers across the state as evidence of the government’s commitment to the welfare of its people. The state government has pledged its full support for the initiative, recognizing its potential to attract investors and benefit the people of Kwara.
The FGN Power Company’s Coordinator, Distribution Lines and Injection Sub-station, and Technical Lead, Oladunjoye Olubukola, explained that the Offa Sub-station is one of the projects under the Presidential Power Initiative’s Phase One. The initiative aims to bridge Nigeria’s energy gap by increasing power supply nationwide. The Coordinator, Environmental, Social and Governance, FGN Power Company, Dr. Robert Eze, noted that the project will provide comprehensive solutions to deliver dependable and additional electricity to Nigerian consumers.
The expected impact of the project includes the energization of more feeders, enhanced commercial, industrial, and residential activities, and increased attraction of investors to Kwara State. The Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Oshogbo Sub-region, Chizoba Ezeoke, added that the initiative will benefit the people of Offa and its environs by creating employment opportunities and improving access to sufficient and reliable power supply.
The collaboration between the FGN Power Company and the Kwara State Government is a significant step towards addressing the state’s power supply challenges.
