ADC Osun: E-Results Rejection Inconsistent with BVAS IReV

The Osun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the recent decision to reject mandatory electronic transmission of election results, calling it inconsistent with technology already employed by Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement on Thursday, ADC Media Director Abosede Busayo Oluwaseun argued that INEC’s existing use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) undermines arguments against electronic result transmission. BVAS is used for electronic voter accreditation, while IReV enables public online access to polling unit results. The party stated these tools, introduced to enhance transparency, have improved election credibility nationwide.

The ADC contended that citing inadequate network coverage as a reason to reject electronic transmission is contradictory. “If Nigeria’s network infrastructure is considered strong enough to accredit voters electronically using BVAS and upload results to IReV, it is untenable to argue that the same infrastructure becomes inadequate for electronic transmission of results,” the statement said.

The party emphasized that electoral technology is designed to reduce human interference and strengthen accountability. It warned that resistance to full electronic transmission could compromise transparency in future contests, including Osun State’s upcoming governorship election.

ADC urged political stakeholders to support reforms that bolster electoral integrity and called for INEC to retain operational independence in deploying technological solutions. The statement underscores a growing debate over how best to leverage digital tools to secure Nigeria’s voting process amid persistent concerns over result manipulation and trust in the system.
