Lagos Police Assault Comedian Ijoba Lande Steal iPhone Cash

Nigerian entertainer Ijoba Lande alleges that officers from the Area “J” Division of the Lagos State Police Command assaulted him, confiscated his mobile phone, and stole cash belonging to his brother.

A widely circulating video on social media shows Lande with visible facial injuries, including blood around his eyes, as bystanders pour water on his face. Additional footage appears to depict him at a police station reporting the incident following the alleged attack.

According to Lande, a popular comedy skit creator and Yoruba Nollywood actor, the encounter occurred just six days after his return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom. He did not specify the exact location or immediate trigger for the confrontation. He claims officers physically assaulted him, seized an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and took $1,200 in cash intended for his brother. Lande stated the incident has left him traumatised and that he is pursuing redress for the alleged misconduct.

The Lagos State Police Command had not issued a public response at the time of this report. The full circumstances remain unverified, and the version of events presented by Lande is currently his sole account.

The case has drawn public attention, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding police conduct and accountability in Nigeria. Lande’s decision to share evidence via social media underscores a growing trend of citizens documenting interactions with law enforcement. The lack of an official statement from the police leaves key questions unanswered, including the justification, if any, for the officers’ actions and the whereabouts of the confiscated items.

A formal investigation by the Lagos State Police Command or an independent body is now anticipated to determine the validity of the allegations. The outcome will be closely watched as a test of institutional responsiveness to claims of misconduct against a prominent citizen.
