FRSC Averts Disaster After Fuel Tanker Overturns in Kaduna
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) prevented a potential catastrophe on Sunday when a loaded fuel tanker overturned at the NEPA Roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna, a major commercial route. The early morning incident occurred within the RS1.1 Kaduna Sector Command operational zone and triggered an immediate multi-agency emergency response.
According to a statement from the Corps Public Education Officer, CPEO Olusegun Ogungbemide, the sector command received a distress call at approximately 7:15 a.m. reporting the crashed tanker at the busy intersection. A rescue team, led by Deputy Route Commander I. Gunda, was swiftly deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, FRSC personnel established a security perimeter, closing all access roads to the stricken vehicle. This decisive action was taken to prevent secondary accidents and mitigate the risk of a fire outbreak from the fuel cargo. Concurrently, the Corps implemented traffic diversion strategies to alleviate congestion and maintain vehicle movement in the Kaduna metropolis.
Personnel from the Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Police Force joined the operation, working in coordination with the FRSC to secure the area and manage public safety. The primary focus remains the safe evacuation of the fuel contents and the removal of the tanker to restore normal traffic flow.
“No casualty was recorded as at the time of filing this report,” the statement confirmed. The FRSC acknowledged the cooperation of motorists during the response and urged continued calm, adherence to traffic directives, and patience as recovery efforts proceed.
The incident highlights the persistent risks of road Transport of hazardous materials and the importance of coordinated emergency protocols. The FRSC reiterated its commitment to proactive response and effective traffic management to protect lives and property on Nigerian roads. Normal traffic on Ahmadu Bello Way is expected to resume upon completion of the safe extraction and clearance operations.
