Nollywood Star Uche Ogbodo Blames Men for 95% Divorces

Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has stated that men are primarily responsible for the majority of marital breakups, asserting they contribute to 95 per cent of failed marriages. The actress made the claim in a recent post on her verified Instagram page, outlining specific behaviours she identified as key factors.

According to Ogbodo, many marriages fail because a significant number of men engage in neglect, infidelity, emotional abuse, devaluation, and betrayal of their spouses. She wrote, “Men contribute 95 per cent in failed marriages. Many marriages fail because a significant number of men neglect, cheat, devalue, emotionally harm, emotionally stress, or betray their wives.”

The actress further linked this trend to a broader societal lack of accountability, suggesting that the absence of consequences for such actions within relationships and the community at large enables the pattern of marital failure. Her comments contribute to an ongoing public conversation about gender dynamics and the root causes of divorce within Nigerian society.

Ogbodo, a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, is currently in her second marriage. She married her partner, Bobby Maris, in October 2023. Her first marriage, to Norway-based football agent Ato Ubby in 2013, ended less than a year later.

Her statement highlights a stark perspective on marital responsibilities, positioning male behaviour as the predominant catalyst for relationship breakdowns. The reaction to such high-profile commentary often reflects wider societal debates concerning expectations, communication, and shared accountability in modern Nigerian marriages. The discussion underscores the complex interplay of personal conduct and cultural norms in shaping family stability.
