Guinness Record Nigerian Barber Longest Barbering Marathon

Nigerian barber Joshua Babatunde Aiyenuro has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records for completing the longest professional barbering marathon, a feat he achieved in Abuja this month.

The record-breaking event, which lasted for an unspecified duration, culminated in Aiyenuro earning the title. Beyond the physical endurance required, Guinness noted the achievement symbolised resilience and purpose. Aiyenuro’s journey to this point is rooted in his early life in Lagos, where he navigated difficult circumstances by dedicating himself to mastering his barbering craft. His skill and reputation grew to the point of being appointed the official barber for Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles.

Following the record verification, Aiyenuro emphasised the broader mission behind his effort. “We’re creating pathways to prosperity, one cut at a time,” he stated. “Our goal is to empower these young minds to drive Nigeria’s growth and become a force for positive change.” His approach frames skilled trades not merely as occupations but as engines for national development and youth empowerment.

Aiyenuro’s certification places him among a recent cohort of Nigerians gaining global attention through record attempts. He follows chef Hilda Baci, who set a record for the longest cooking marathon, reflecting a trend of Nigerians pursuing Guinness accolades to showcase tenacity and skill on an international stage.

The record is officially certified by Guinness World Records, confirming the marathon met all strict guidelines for continuous professional service. This accomplishment highlights the potential of the informal sector and vocational expertise in Nigeria, positioning skilled trades as a viable and prestigious career path. The narrative now shifts to how this recognition might further Aiyenuro’s stated goal of mentoring young people and promoting barbering as a disciplined profession capable of driving economic self-sufficiency.
