NDLEA Seizes 64 Bags of Cannabis Hidden in Cement Trailer in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a significant consignment of suspected cannabis concealed within a trailer carrying Dangote cement on the Zaria-Kano Road, arresting the driver in the process.

The seizure, carried out by officers from the NDLEA’s Kiru Area Command on February 2, was the result of intelligence-led surveillance. According to a statement from the Kano Strategic Command, the trailer had departed from Obajana in Kogi State and was en route to Mubi in Adamawa State when it was stopped.

State Commander Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal confirmed the driver is currently in NDLEA custody pending further investigation. “The drugs were concealed within legitimate cargo and are believed to have been intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period,” the commander stated.

He described the operation as a product of meticulous intelligence gathering and officer dedication, aligning with nationwide directives from NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, to intensify patrols and sustain intelligence-driven operations. “We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual wellbeing of our communities,” Yahaya-Lawal added.

Investigations are now focused on uncovering the network behind the shipment, with efforts underway to apprehend other collaborators and facilitators. The NDLEA warned that all culpable individuals will be prosecuted.

The commander also issued a public appeal for vigilance, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest NDLEA office. He emphasized that community cooperation is critical to safeguarding public peace, particularly during significant religious observances.

This interception underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking across Nigeria’s northern states, disrupting supply chains before illicit substances reach communities.
