PDP Suspends Birnin Kudu Chair Over Misconduct, Names Acting Chair for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Alhaji Lukman Wurno, the Chairman of its Birnin Kudu Local Government Chapter in Jigawa State, following allegations of misconduct. The suspension, announced in an official statement, is effective immediately.

The statement, issued by the party’s Local Government Secretary Alhaji Lawan Ahmed, directed Wurno to cease presenting himself as the chapter’s chairman. It confirmed that the decision was made after evaluating specific allegations against him and was enacted in accordance with the PDP’s constitution and internal disciplinary mechanisms. The party emphasized that the action aims to preserve unity and discipline within the chapter.

Pending further instructions from the state or national leadership, the chapter has endorsed Alhaji Ibrahim Maigida Halimbe to serve as Acting Chairman. This interim appointment is intended to ensure continuity in the chapter’s operations and administrative functions.

The PDP leadership reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to its governing documents at all levels. This move underscores the party’s effort to resolve internal issues through established procedures, a practice common among major political organizations managing grassroots structures.

Party officials in the region have urged members to remain calm and continue supporting the PDP’s activities in Birnin Kudu. They assured members that necessary steps are being taken to stabilize and strengthen the party’s local organization. This internal resolution is viewed as part of broader preparation for future electoral cycles, including the 2027 general election, where cohesive local chapters are deemed critical for campaign coordination and voter mobilization.

As one of Nigeria’s major political parties, the PDP’s management of its local government chapters frequently draws attention for its impact on regional political dynamics and the party’s overall strategy. The suspension in Birnin Kudu highlights the ongoing challenges parties face in enforcing discipline while maintaining cohesion across numerous local entities.
