Nigerian Army Neutralises Two Terrorists in Ondo State Operation
In a targeted security operation, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 32 Artillery Brigade killed two terrorists along the Akunu-Augga road in Ondo State’s Akoko North-East Local Government Area. The action, conducted on February 14, stemmed from credible intelligence regarding the movement of armed criminals in the region.
According to a statement from the brigade’s Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Major Irabor Njoka, soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Auga swiftly mobilised to intercept the suspects. This led to an exchange of gunfire, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists. Other assailants reportedly fled the scene sustaining gunshot wounds.
The operation was a joint effort involving the Ondo State Security Network Agency and local vigilante groups, highlighting inter-agency collaboration in the state’s security architecture. Recovered from the encounter were one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and the sum of ₦39,000, among other items.
Major Njoka emphasised that the success demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property. He stated that the 32 Artillery Brigade will sustain aggressive clearance operations, intensify patrols along identified criminal routes, and deepen cooperation with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain a secure environment.
The military urged residents to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence to security forces, noting that public cooperation is essential to eliminating criminal elements from the state. This incident underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria’s southwest and the continued reliance on combined military and community-based strategies to address them.
