The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored the 330kV Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line 1, a critical infrastructure asset, following comprehensive repair works by its engineering teams. The restoration, announced in a statement from Abuja on Monday by TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, has immediately enhanced bulk power supply to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), alleviating previous power supply constraints in Kaduna State.
The Shiroro–Mando corridor is a major artery in Nigeria’s national grid, transmitting high-voltage electricity from the Shiroro power station in Niger State to the northern regional grid, with significant distribution points in Kaduna. The failure of Line 1 had contributed to supply shortfalls in the region. Its restoration represents a significant operational recovery for TCN.
“With the restoration of Line 1, bulk power supply to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has significantly improved, and power supply constraints previously experienced in the state alleviated,” Mbah stated. She confirmed that repair work is actively progressing on the parallel 330kV Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line 2. “Barring any unforeseen circumstances, restoration of power will be completed soon,” she added.
The dual-line setup is designed for network redundancy, a crucial factor for grid stability. The full restoration of both lines will strengthen this redundancy, thereby improving the overall reliability and resilience of the national transmission system against future disruptions.
In her statement, Mbah extended the TCN’s appreciation to consumers and stakeholders for their patience during the outage period. She reiterated the company’s commitment to delivering stable and efficient transmission services across Nigeria.
The timely completion of repairs on Line 1 provides immediate relief to consumers in Kaduna and supports the broader goal of stabilising power supply in northern Nigeria. The final restoration of Line 2 is the next pivotal step, expected to further secure the high-voltage corridor and contribute to a more robust national grid. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges of maintaining critical transmission infrastructure and the operational focus required to ensure consistent power flow across the country.
