The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched a monitoring exercise for 31 federal executive and constituency projects valued at ₦3.6 billion across Ondo State’s three senatorial districts. The initiative, part of the commission’s ongoing Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking (CEPT) programme, aims to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and value for money in government spending.
Osove Andrew, Assistant Chief Superintendent of Investigation and head of the ICPC Ondo State team, confirmed the commencement of Phase 8 of the CEPT programme on Tuesday. He explained that the tracking covers projects in key sectors including health, education, water supply, agriculture, special interventions, and electrification. The team is visiting approximately 60 project locations during this phase.
“The commission’s mandate requires us to ensure that federal projects, especially constituency and executive projects, are executed according to specifications,” Andrew stated. He emphasized that the ICPC will enforce corrective measures where deviations are found. “If agreements are violated, we instruct contractors to return to site and rectify issues or face sanctions. Our goal is to guarantee that quality and quantity match the contractual requirements.”
The monitoring team includes professionals such as Adelami Bayegun, a Quantity Surveyor, who noted preliminary observations of varied quality across visited sites. “We have seen projects that are above standard and others that fall below expectations,” Bayegun said, urging contractors to prioritize quality delivery for national development.
Community feedback has been positive. Some school administrators and residents in visited communities expressed support for the exercise, noting it would encourage contractors to meet obligations. The tracked projects include the installation of solar lights, construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, and other infrastructure initiatives.
The CEPT programme, now in its eighth phase, reflects the ICPC’s systemic approach to curbing corruption in project implementation. By scrutinizing execution from conception to completion, the commission seeks to enhance transparency and accountability in the utilisation of public funds. This exercise in Ondo State underscores a broader federal effort to strengthen oversight on constituency projects, which are often funded through annual budgetary allocations to lawmakers for grassroots development.
The ICPC’s actions signal continued scrutiny on project delivery, with stakeholders anticipating that consistent monitoring will deter shoddy work and promote sustainable infrastructure outcomes across Nigeria.
