Explosion at Plateau Mining Site: 33 Dead, Others Injured

An explosion at an illegal mining site in Nigeria’s Plateau State has resulted in the deaths of 33 people, according to a government statement.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at a location known as Kampani Zurak, within the Wase Local Government Area. Joyce Ramnap, the Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, confirmed the tragedy in a statement issued from the state capital, Jos.

Preliminary reports indicate that 33 individuals were inside a mining tunnel when the explosion happened. Others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. The site is reportedly owned by a company named
