Nigerian Content Creator Arrested in UK Passport Row

Nigerian content creator Kolu has been arrested by UK immigration authorities following an incident at an airport, according to statements from musician Candy Bleakz.

Bleakz, in an Instagram video posted on Wednesday, said she had sponsored Kolu’s travel to the United Kingdom. She recounted that the pair were preparing to board a return flight to Nigeria when Kolu discovered he could not locate his passport.

According to Bleakz, she advised Kolu to calmly search for the document and then communicate the situation to border officials. Instead, she claimed an altercation ensued. “Kolu go dey fight,” she stated, adding that he did not heed her instructions to remain calm. She suggested his behaviour may have stemmed from a misunderstanding of the procedures, remarking, “He thought it was Nigeria.”

As a result, Kolu was taken to a police station. Bleakz confirmed she accompanied him and has been at the station since the morning, attempting to liaise with authorities. Her primary concern, she explained, is to prevent Kolu’s deportation back to Nigeria. She argued such an outcome would negatively impact his passport record and future travel eligibility.

The incident underscores the serious legal obligations tied to visitor visas and sponsorship. In the UK, individuals entering under a sponsor’s guarantee must comply strictly with immigration rules, including timely departure. Losing a passport abroad can complicate departure procedures, and any confrontation with border officials can lead to detention, investigation, and potential bans on re-entry.

Bleakz emphasized that Kolu’s presence in the UK was directly linked to her sponsorship, meaning any violation could also affect her own credibility with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Sponsors are often required to demonstrate responsibility for a visitor’s adherence to their permitted stay.

The situation remains unresolved. The duration of Kolu’s detention and the final administrative decision—whether he will be released to depart voluntarily or face formal removal proceedings—now depends on UK immigration protocols. This case highlights the importance of document security and composed compliance during international travel, particularly for those under visitor sponsorship.
