Nigerian singer Portable has firmly declined a N50 million (approximately $60,000) proposal for a celebrity boxing match against popular streamer Cater Efe, countering with a demand for a total package valued at N350 million.
The initial offer was made by music executive Soso Soberekon during a recent livestream with Cater Efe, who immediately accepted and called for the bout to be scheduled. However, Portable responded in a separate video, rejecting the cash sum alone. He stated he would participate only if a luxury car worth N300 million is added to the prize, bringing the total to N350 million. He expressed confidence in his ability to win, referencing his previous victories in similar celebrity bouts against Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington.
“Soso, N50 million is too little. Give me N50 million plus a car worth N300 million, totaling N350 million and I will beat Cater Efe mercilessly. I am the same guy who beat Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington,” Portable said.
Soso Soberekon has not yet publicly responded to Portable’s revised demand. The standoff highlights the growing trend of high-profile entertainment figures in Nigeria participating in organized boxing matches, which often generate significant public interest and social media engagement. These events, while promotional, have previously seen celebrities like Okocha and Darlington engage in physically competitive displays.
The disagreement leaves the proposed match in limbo, with the financial gap between the initial offer and Portable’s demand exceeding sixfold. The next step hinges on whether Soso Soberekon or other potential backers will consider Portable’s conditions, or if the fight concept will proceed under different terms. This situation underscores the financial negotiations that can accompany Nigeria’s niche but visible celebrity boxing circuit.
