Boko Haram Attack: Hong LGA Chairman Urges Military Air, Ground Ops

Normalcy Returns to Adamawa Community After Boko Haram Attack, Official Says

Normalcy has returned to Garaha Mojilli, a community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, following a weekend attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, according to the area’s Executive Chairman.

Hon. Usman Inuwa told Daily Trust in a phone interview on Monday that the council, alongside the paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty Tol-huba Alheri Bulus Nyako, visited the community to commiserate with residents. Relief items were distributed during the visit.

The attack occurred on Saturday night and lasted approximately two hours. Initial reports indicate three soldiers and one civilian woman were killed. Several insurgents were reportedly neutralised during the crossfire, with others fleeing the scene suffering gunshot wounds.

Inuwa emphasised the need for heightened community vigilance. “Our people need to be very vigilant on what goes in and out of the community and to expose those among them playing the role of informants or moles for the insurgents,” he stated.

He also called for enhanced military tactics, advocating for combined air and ground interventions in future emergencies. “I appeal to the federal government and the military to be proactive in their approaches by using both air and ground interventions,” Inuwa said, citing the community’s mountainous terrain and proximity to the notorious Sambisa Forest as factors complicating security operations.

The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Adamawa and the broader Northeast region. While the immediate situation in Garaha Mojilli is described as calm, the attack highlights the vulnerability of communities near forested areas that have historically served as insurgent hideouts.

Inuwa urged both federal and state governments to adopt more robust, coordinated security strategies to address the threat comprehensively. The distribution of relief materials signifies an initial response, but long-term stability will depend on sustained military presence and intelligence-driven operations to dismantle insurgent networks operating in the region.
