Security Partnership Reaffirmed by NDA, 1 Division

Nigerian Defence Academy and 1 Division Army Reaffirm Security Partnership

KAWO, NIGERIA — The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division have reaffirmed their commitment to a strengthened security partnership following a high-level meeting at the division’s headquarters in Kawo on February 24, 2026. The dialogue, aimed at enhancing operational collaboration, focused on improving security protocols for the academy and surrounding communities.

The delegation was led by NDA Commandant, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, who engaged in a courtesy call with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase. During the meeting, General Olatoye expressed gratitude for the division’s sustained operational support, specifically acknowledging the role of the 37 Demonstration Battalion.

He highlighted tangible results from their integrated security framework. “We must acknowledge the visible improvements in security around the Nigerian Defence Academy,” General Olatoye stated. He attributed this progress to enhanced leadership coordination, noting that previous security gaps have been systematically addressed to ensure the protection of personnel, infrastructure, and ongoing training activities.

The discussions also covered joint security operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, a regional military initiative targeting insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West zone. The NDA’s incorporation into the divisional security structure was cited as a key factor in improving threat response times and community safety.

Responding to the delegation, Major General Wase praised the NDA’s foundational role in training military officers and providing institutional support. He reiterated the division’s dedication to maintaining close coordination with the academy. “Close coordination among military formations remains essential to achieving operational success and maintaining stability in the region,” the GOC remarked.

The meeting, conducted in line with military tradition, underscores a pragmatic military cooperation model. By aligning the NDA’s internal security with the 1 Division’s broader operational mandate, both institutions aim to create a more resilient security environment for a critical national institution and its vicinity.

This renewed partnership is significant given the persistent security challenges in Nigeria’s North-West, where armed banditry and criminal networks have long affected both civilian populations and military installations. The collaborative approach between a premier training institution and a field command may serve as a blueprint for other military-civilian security integrations facing similar threats. Future steps will likely involve continuous joint assessments and operational drills to sustain the reported improvements.
