Controversial Nigerian street pop artiste Portable has confirmed receiving a N40 million payment for agreeing to a proposed boxing match against popular streamer Carter Efe. The announcement, made via Instagram, details a multi-layered financial incentive structure surrounding the potential fight.
According to a video posted on his social media, Portable stated that the initial N40 million was paid by the event organisers solely for his commitment to participate. He expressed confidence in his ability to win, adding that promoters Soso Soberekon and businessman E-Money have each pledged an additional N50 million and a car should he defeat Carter Efe.
“I have received N40 million from the organisers. They paid me the money just for accepting to fight Carter Efe. I’m very sure that I will defeat him,” Portable said. “Soso Soberekon and E-Money said they will also give me N50 million each with a car if I defeat him.”
The challenge appears to have been catalysed by Soberekon, a known celebrity promoter, who has offered a winner-takes-all prize of N50 million. Carter Efe has publicly accepted the fight, confirming his participation in a separate video message where he urged the organisers to set a date for the bout.
The proposed spectacle highlights a growing trend of high-stakes, cross-industry entertainment matchups in Nigeria, often negotiated and publicised directly through social media platforms. Both figures boast significant online followings—Portable as a provocative and successful musician in the street pop genre, and Carter Efe as a content creator and streamer—making the potential confrontation a notable event for the country’s digital and mainstream media landscapes.
While a formal agreement and date are pending finalisation by the organisers, the disclosed financial terms have already generated considerable public discussion. The outcome now hinges on securing a venue, official medical clearances, and a confirmed schedule for the match, which could see two influential young Nigerian entertainers compete in a non-traditional arena for a combined potential purse exceeding N180 million.
