Iyabo Ojo Denies Giving Kayamata to Goddaughter Fola Tinubu

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has publicly denied allegations that she introduced her goddaughter, Fola Tinubu, to ‘Kayamata,’ a substance reputed to enhance sexual attraction. The denial follows viral social media rumours originating from a popular blog, Gistlover, which claimed Ojo provided the substance to Tinubu and made additional, unverified allegations about Tinubu’s personal life, including an affair with actor Kunle Afolayan.

The controversy began when Gistlover published claims suggesting Ojo supplied Kayamata to influence Tinubu’s relationships. The blog further alleged that Tinubu was involved with multiple men and had become pregnant by Afolayan. These assertions quickly spread across Nigerian social media platforms, prompting Ojo to issue a direct rebuttal via her Instagram story.

In her statement, Ojo categorically rejected the claims. “I don’t patronise such (Kayamata),” she wrote, emphasising that Tinubu, as an adult, is responsible for her own decisions. “I don’t discuss intimate matters with goddaughters. I’m a very strict and busy person,” Ojo added. She labelled the report “a lie from the pit of hell,” stating she has no knowledge of Tinubu’s dating life and has never given her anything for “sexual or relationship purposes.” Ojo also noted she does not use Kayamata herself.

Kayamata, often discussed in Nigerian social and entertainment circles, is a colloquial term for various herbal or cosmetic products marketed with claims of increasing attractiveness or romantic success. Its use is controversial and frequently tied to gossip and unverified rumours, particularly within high-profile networks like Nollywood.

This incident highlights the rapid spread of unverified claims on social media and the subsequent reputational risks for public figures. Ojo’s swift and firm denial underscores the challenges celebrities face in countering digital gossip that can proliferate without factual basis. The allegation against a prominent actress and her goddaughter also touches on issues of privacy and the boundaries of interpersonal relationships within Nigeria’s closely watched film industry.

The situation remains a topic of public discussion, with observers noting the potential for such rumours to impact personal and professional relationships. Neither Tinubu nor Afolayan has publicly commented on the specific allegations made by Gistlover. The episode serves as a reminder of the powerful role social media blogs play in shaping narratives around celebrities in Nigeria, often blurring the lines between reporting and speculation.
