Osimhen Top 5 Striker Better Than Gyökeres Says Meleke

Turkish football analyst Uğur Meleke has claimed that Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is a superior player to Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres, placing the Nigerian international among the world’s best forwards.

Meleke’s assessment follows Osimhen’s commanding performance in Galatasaray’s 3-1 Turkish Super Lig victory over Alanyaspor last weekend. Speaking to the Turkish outlet Habersarikirmizi, Meleke stated, “In my opinion, Victor Osimhen is one of the top five strikers in the world. He is ranked alongside Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, and Lautaro Martínez.” He added, “Right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Osimhen went from Galatasaray to Real Madrid, Manchester City, or Liverpool. I think he is better than Gyökeres.”

The comment draws a direct comparison between two of Europe’s most in-demand strikers. Osimhen, 25, joined Galatasaray from Napoli in the summer of 2023 after a prolific spell in Serie A, where he was a key figure in Napoli’s 2022-23 title win. His physical presence, pace, and finishing have made him an instant hit in Istanbul, consistently delivering goals in domestic and European competitions.

Gyökeres, 26, has also garnered significant attention after a standout season with Sporting CP in Portugal, which earned him a high-profile transfer to Arsenal in the January 2025 window. The Swedish international’s movement, work rate, and clinical finishing have drawn praise, establishing him as a top-tier forward in the Premier League.

Meleke’s remarks highlight the ongoing debate among pundits regarding the hierarchy of modern centre-forwards. By nominating Osimhen for the world’s top five, the analyst underscores the Nigerian’s perceived impact and market value. The suggestion that top clubs like Real Madrid or Manchester City would pursue him reflects the player’s reputation since his move to Turkey.

The comparison also serves to amplify the profiles of both players within African and international football discourse. For Media Talk Africa’s audience, the discussion emphasizes the continued emergence and valuation of African talent at the highest levels of the European game. Osimhen’s trajectory from the Nigerian league to Napoli and now Galatasaray remains a notable pathway for strikers from the continent.

While such comparisons are subjective, they often influence public perception and transfer speculation. Both players are under contract with major clubs—Osimhen with Galatasaray and Gyökeres with Arsenal—making future moves a topic of sustained media interest. Meleke’s comments add a prominent voice to the conversation, asserting Osimhen’s status as a player of world-class caliber whose performance in Turkey merits consideration alongside Europe’s most established forwards.
