Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has initiated a cabinet reshuffle, nominating two commissioner-designates and appointing a new agency head alongside several senior aides. The changes, announced on Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed, are part of efforts to strengthen governance and accelerate development in the northwestern Nigerian state.
Governor Radda forwarded the names of Muhammad Sani-Ahmad and Mannir Ayuba-Sullubawa to the Katsina State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners. In Nigeria’s state governance structure, such nominations require legislative approval before commissioners assume office, where they will lead various ministries responsible for key sectors like education, health, and infrastructure. This move follows earlier appointments since Radda assumed office in 2023, reflecting a ongoing process to finalize his executive team.
Additionally, the governor approved the appointment of Suleiman Namadi as Managing Director of the Katsina State Erosion and Watershed Management Agency. This agency addresses critical environmental challenges, including soil erosion and water resource management, which significantly impact agriculture and community stability in a region prone to desertification and seasonal flooding. Namadi’s leadership is expected to enhance the agency’s projects aimed at sustainable land and water use.
In advisory capacities, Radda appointed Jamila Salman, Ibrahim Danjuma, and Muddasir Mati as Senior Special Assistants, while Musa Dankawu and Abdulfatah Kafur were named Special Assistants. These roles involve providing strategic counsel and coordination on specific policy domains, supporting the governor’s office in implementing state initiatives.
Expressing confidence in the appointees, Governor Radda urged them to “hit the ground running” and align strictly with his administration’s “Building Your Future” agenda. He characterized the appointments as a call to service, emphasizing focus, results, and dedication to fulfilling campaign promises. “Work with focus, deliver results and make the people proud,” Radda stated, directing all officials to prioritize the agenda’s goals, which span infrastructure, economic empowerment, and social services.
The commissioner nominations now await consideration by the Katsina State House of Assembly, a process that typically involves hearings and voting. Once confirmed, the new commissioners will join the state executive council, while the agency head and aides will integrate into administrative operations. This reshuffle arrives as Katsina State, with a population exceeding 8 million, confronts persistent issues like environmental degradation and the need for diversified economic growth.
The announcement underscores Governor Radda’s proactive approach to optimizing his administration ahead of mid-term evaluations. As the confirmation phase proceeds, observers will monitor how these appointments translate into tangible progress on the “Building Your Future” framework, particularly in addressing erosion control and enhancing public service delivery across Katsina’s communities.
