Nigerian Army Takes Alkaleri Security After Bandit Attacks

The Nigerian military has assumed direct command of security operations in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State, following repeated attacks by armed bandits. The move comes after Governor Bala Mohammed urgently requested federal intervention to protect communities under siege.

Major General Eyitayo Foluso Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding the Army’s 3 Division, confirmed the deployment to the state capital, Bauchi, on Tuesday. He stated the action fulfills directives from the Chief of Defence Staff to address recent security breaches in the region. “The deployment of additional troops is aimed at restoring lasting peace,” Major General Oyinlola told Governor Mohammed during their meeting at the Government House.

The military leadership has assured residents there will be “no safe haven” for criminal elements. Operations will combine both kinetic and non-kinetic tactics, focusing on the proactive dismantling of criminal networks. Troops have intensified clearance missions in known hideouts, strengthened surveillance across identified flashpoints, and improved coordination with police and other agencies to prevent future incursions.

Intelligence-driven missions are ongoing to track and disrupt the movements of armed groups. Additional logistics and personnel have been mobilised to maintain a sustained security presence in Alkaleri and neighbouring communities, with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of vulnerable residents and securing major routes.

This escalation highlights the persistent challenge of armed banditry in northwest and north-central Nigeria, where criminal groups frequently attack villages, kidnap residents for ransom, and loot livestock. The military’s direct supervision in Alkaleri signals a federal commitment to contain the violence, though lasting stability will depend on the effectiveness of coordinated, sustained operations alongside community engagement and intelligence sharing.
