NSCDC Kano Arrests Gun-Runner with Six Firearms, Fraudster with $600,000 in Counterfeit Cash
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kano State Command has arrested two suspects in separate operations: a suspected gun-runner found with six firearms and a alleged fraudster in possession of $600,000 in counterfeit US dollars.
The arrests were announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi. The operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal arms proliferation and financial fraud within the state.
According to the statement, NSCDC operatives on routine patrol along Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano intercepted a suspect identified as Suleiman M. Uba, 31. A search revealed he was in possession of six firearms. Preliminary investigations indicate Uba, from Tashene village in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, was transporting the weapons towards Kebbi State at the time of his arrest.
“The arrest followed credible intelligence and proactive patrol operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal arms and light weapons, as well as preventing criminal activities within Kano State and beyond,” the statement noted.
In a related case, NSCDC operatives arrested another suspect, Abbas Lawan Garkuwa, 37, at Kwankwasiyya City in Kumbotso Local Government Area. The suspect was allegedly found with $600,000 in counterfeit US currency, equivalent to approximately N900 million, along with various fetish items suspected to be used in defrauding victims.
SC Idris-Abdullahi confirmed that both cases are under thorough investigation, and the suspects will be prosecuted upon completion of the process. He reiterated the Command’s commitment, under the leadership of State Commandant Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, to protecting lives and property in Kano.
The NSCDC urged the public to continue supplying timely and actionable intelligence to security agencies to bolster collective security efforts against crime.
