Lagos APC Denies Chairman Ordered Emergency Meeting, Calls Report “False and Misleading”
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly denied media reports claiming its State Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, directed Supervisory Leadership Groups (SLGs) and supervisors to converge at the party secretariat. The party described the allegations as deliberately false and aimed at creating unnecessary anxiety.
In a statement on Wednesday, APC spokesman Mogaji Seye Oladejo categorically stated that no such directive was issued by Chairman Ojelabi and that no emergency meeting was convened. “At no time did the State Chairman issue any such directive, nor is there any emergency meeting scheduled as being speculated,” Oladejo said.
The statement characterised the circulating report as “false, misleading and deliberately circulated to create unnecessary anxiety within the party and among the public.” It reaffirmed that the Lagos APC operates as a disciplined and law-abiding organisation guided by transparency, due process, and collective decision-making.
The party emphasised that its current focus is on consolidation and preparation for the forthcoming national elections, not on actions that could cause internal disruption. Oladejo stated the leadership is concentrating on strengthening internal mechanisms and mobilising members statewide to ensure electoral success. “Our primary focus at this critical time remains putting every necessary structure in place as we count down to the forthcoming national elections,” he added.
The APC also issued a caution to its members, supporters, and the public against spreading unverified information. The statement advised against “spreading or entertaining rumours capable of needlessly heating up the polity,” urging all to rely only on official communications from recognised party channels for updates.
This denial addresses speculation about internal party coordination ahead of the general elections, a period often marked by heightened political activity and rumour. The Lagos APC’s swift rebuttal underscores its effort to project stability and a singular focus on campaign organisation. The party has committed to providing official information through its established communication platforms as it proceeds with its election strategy.
