The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has concluded its internal ward, local government, and state congresses without major incident, a development the party says positions it strongly for the 2027 general elections. Moses Maihankali, Chairman of the Taraba State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), expressed confidence in the party’s readiness following the successful exercise.
Speaking in Jalingo on Wednesday, Maihankali described the conduct of the congresses as peaceful and orderly, commending Governor Agbu Kefas and other stakeholders for facilitating a smooth process. He noted that the election of new party officials across all levels was achieved without significant setbacks, which he characterised as a critical step in solidifying the party’s organisational structure throughout the state.
The ALGON chairman attributed the APC’s positive outlook for 2027 to the sustained public support for Governor Kefas’s administration. He stated that residents remain committed to the governor’s development agenda, providing a foundation the party intends to leverage in future electoral contests. “The people of Taraba State have shown continued confidence in the current leadership, and this naturally translates to goodwill for the party,” Maihankali said.
He urged all party members to maintain unity and focus, emphasising that internal cohesion would be essential to achieving the party’s electoral objectives in the next cycle. The peaceful transition during the congresses, he added, demonstrated the party’s capacity for disciplined self-organisation.
The successful conclusion of Taraba’s APC congresses comes as the party looks to consolidate its presence in a state known for its competitive political landscape. With the 2027 general elections over two years away, the orderly renewal of party executives is viewed as an early indicator of organisational health. Maihankali’s remarks signal the APC’s intention to build on its recent performance, positioning the state as a key battleground where the party aims to secure victories at all levels.
The process has now set the stage for more coordinated campaign strategies, with party officials at the grassroots expected to drive mobilization efforts ahead of the elections.
