Dangote Refinery raises PMS to N1,175, third hike this week

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has implemented its third increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) within a single week, raising the ex-refinery cost to N1,175 per litre. This latest adjustment, communicated to distributors on Monday, follows a previous rise just days earlier and signals persistent volatility in Nigeria’s fuel market.

The new gantry price of N1,175 per litre represents an increase of N180, or approximately 18.1 per cent, from the N995 per litre set on Friday. That Friday price itself was an upward revision from N874 per litre earlier in the week. The swift succession of hikes has effectively pushed the pump price for consumers nationwide above N1,000 per litre.

Separately, the refinery also revised the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, to N1,620 per litre. Diesel is a critical fuel for transportation, power generation, and industry, meaning this increase will likely elevate operational costs across multiple sectors of the economy.

This pattern of frequent price adjustments by the Dangote Refinery, which began commercial operations in late 2023, reflects ongoing dynamics in Nigeria’s oil sector.
