Wike: FCT Sci-Tech University to Start Under Tinubu

FCT Minister Confirms Launch of Abaji University Under Tinubu Administration

Abuja—The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Federal Capital Territory University of Science and Technology, Abaji, will commence operations during President Bola Tinubu’s tenure.

Speaking in Abaji on Tuesday, Minister Wike stated that the FCT Administration is actively developing the necessary infrastructure and critical facilities for the university’s take-off. He urged residents to exercise patience, affirming the President’s commitment to realizing the project.

The university is positioned as a significant development for the region. Wike highlighted its anticipated impact, stating it will create employment opportunities and stimulate further growth in the Abaji community. “From our conversations, we see how important the university is, not only to Abaji people but to all residents of the FCT,” he remarked.

The minister’s visit was primarily to thank the community for its support in the February 21 area council elections, where candidates aligned with President Tinubu achieved a decisive victory. Wike framed the electoral outcome as a fulfilled promise, referencing direct engagement with community leaders. “We sat with you and asked that you support Tinubu… You came out in large numbers and delivered 133 of the 135 polling units in the council to Tinubu,” he said. “Now you have done your part, we will do ours too.”

He described modern politics as requiring tangible delivery, not empty campaign promises. “This time, leaders must show people they will deliver good governance,” Wike stated, adding that his commitment to Abaji extends beyond political support, citing the humility of the outgoing Area Council Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi.

In response to local requests, Wike pledged to address gully erosion in two communities, rehabilitate a 15-kilometre abandoned road, and construct the Gurara Market bridge.

Chairman Abdullahi expressed gratitude for the minister’s engagement, noting a marked increase in federal presence and development projects since Wike’s appointment. He attributed the ruling All Progressives Congress’s sweep of all 10 council wards in the election to the tangible projects executed by the Tinubu administration through the FCT Ministry.

The announcement ties the university’s future directly to the current federal administration’s agenda, framing its establishment as a reciprocal reward for political loyalty and a cornerstone for Abaji’s socio-economic development.
