ADC Dismisses False Reports on Senator Kingibe Suspension

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has categorically denied media reports announcing the suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, describing the circulating claims as entirely false and misleading. The statement, released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi on Thursday, aims to correct misinformation surrounding the lawmaker who represents the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) in the Nigerian Senate.

Abdullahi stated explicitly that the ADC is not aware of any decision, process, or resolution pertaining to Senator Kingibe’s suspension. He characterised the reports as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and undermine the party’s internal integrity. “The African Democratic Congress is unaware of any suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, the distinguished Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement affirmed.

The party’s response highlights its commitment to constitutional governance, noting that it maintains well-defined, formal procedures for addressing any allegations involving its members. Abdullahi emphasised that such internal matters are resolved through established party mechanisms, not via public media statements. “As a law-abiding political party, the ADC has clear constitutional procedures for addressing any allegations involving its members. Such matters are handled through established internal mechanisms, not through press statements,” he explained.

This approach underscores the ADC’s preference for discreet, due-process handling of disciplinary issues, a common practice among structured political organisations. The party’s assertion suggests the current reports are not emanating from any official channel within the ADC hierarchy.

Consequently, the ADC has formally urged both the general public and media organisations to disregard the unfounded suspension reports. The statement called for vigilance in verifying information, particularly regarding political figures, to prevent the spread of inaccuracies that could distort public perception.

The denial is significant within Nigeria’s political landscape, where rumours of internal party crises often surface ahead of electoral cycles or major legislative decisions. For Senator Kingibe, a prominent figure representing the nation’s capital, the clarification secures her standing amid speculative narratives. The episode also serves as a reminder of the challenges political parties face in controlling their public narrative in the digital age.

The ADC’s firm stance reaffirms its stated dedication to constitutional order internally, while externally calling for responsible reporting. The party indicates no further comment will be made on the matter, redirecting all internal affairs to its prescribed, private procedures. The public is advised to await official communications from the party for any authentic updates on its members’ status.
