A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Peter Terwase Tortiv-Ato, has asserted that the party is optimally positioned to secure victory in the state’s 2027 gubernatorial election. Tortiv-Ato, a prominent PDP figure, made the declaration during an interaction with journalists at his Makurdi residence, highlighting the party’s perceived organisational strength and deep community connections.
He characterised the PDP as the most stable political platform in Benue, emphasising its unity and extensive grassroots presence as decisive advantages for the upcoming electoral cycle. “The party is united and deeply rooted at the grassroots, and that gives us a strong advantage as we move towards the 2027 elections,” Tortiv-Ato stated, framing the PDP as a formidable and acceptable choice for voters.
The aspirant credited specific leaders for fortifying the party’s structure and broadening its appeal across the state. He praised the immediate past governor and PDP Board of Trustees member, Samuel Ortom; Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro; and Benue State PDP Chairman, Ezekiel Adaji. According to Tortiv-Ato, their collective leadership has reinforced party cohesion and expanded its support base, making the PDP “more formidable” and better equipped to regain state leadership.
While advocating for the PDP’s renewed mandate, Tortiv-Ato also urged Benue voters to adopt a discerning approach to candidate selection. He advised the electorate to transcend partisan loyalties and rigorously scrutinise the plans, capacity, and funding mechanisms proposed by all aspirants. “People should ask tough questions when politicians come seeking their votes. They should ask how those promises will be funded and demand clear commitments,” he said, stressing that accountability for campaign pledges is essential for rebuilding public trust and driving development.
His remarks underscore the PDP’s early strategic manoeuvring for the 2027 governorship race in a state with a history of competitive electoral contests. By coupling confidence in the party’s internal stability with a call for voter vigilance, Tortiv-Ato’s position reflects a common campaign narrative that blends organisational claims with civic responsibility. The statements also signal an intent to consolidate the party’s legacy and structure ahead of the next electoral cycle, positioning the PDP as both a stable alternative and a viable governing option for Benue State.
