ADC Anambra Registration Slow, Targets 120,000 Members

The Anambra State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Patrick Obianyo, has highlighted significant challenges facing the party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise in the state, citing technical difficulties with the online portal.

Speaking on Saturday during the inauguration of the state chapter of the ADC Independent Campaign Council (AICC), Obianyo reported that as of last Thursday, only approximately 22,000 members had been successfully registered in Anambra. He stated this falls far short of the party’s target of 120,000 members and lags behind progress in states like Adamawa, which began the process earlier.

The chairman detailed the operational hurdles, explaining that the slow portal traffic forced the party to collect physical data from prospective members manually during mobilization efforts, with the intention of processing registrations during off-peak hours. “Just yesterday, we mobilized a lot of people to various registration centers, but it wasn’t easy. We could only register a few people,” he said, noting that successful registrations sometimes occurred as late as midnight. He attributed the difficulty to high traffic on the site, which hampers the smooth registration of new members.

Obianyo inaugurated a 10-man committee to lead the state AICC, charging them with intensified outreach to register an additional 100,000 members before the upcoming Monday deadline. The committee’s role is to drive awareness and membership sign-ups while promoting the ADC’s message.

Earlier, the National Coordinator of AICC, Chief Jaja Anthony Ibiam, addressed the gathering, urging members to work assiduously. He framed the political contest as critical for Nigeria’s future, stating that leaving the country under the governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) could jeopardize national development. “The time to take back our country and put her in the league of successful countries in the world is now!” he declared, emphasizing that the responsibility for change rests on individual members.

The ADC’s membership drive in Anambra represents a key grassroots mobilization effort for the opposition party. The technical issues with the registration portal present a tangible obstacle to achieving its stated targets ahead of future electoral cycles, highlighting the logistical demands of building party structures at the state level. The success of the AICC committee’s mandate will be crucial for the party’s stated goal of expanding its influence in the southeastern state.
