Crayon’s Mavin Feud: Olodum Launch After Label Criticism

Nigerian singer Crayon has sparked significant online controversy after publicly criticising his record label, Mavin Records, and its leadership in a series of social media posts.

Crayon, who is signed to Blowtime Entertainment—an imprint of Mavin Records—used his X account to express dissatisfaction with the label’s management. In one post, he made a cryptic remark about Don Jazzy, the founder of Mavin Records, while directly targeting Tega Oghenejobo, the label’s Chief Operating Officer, whom he referred to as a “highest criminal.” The singer also made a startling claim that he lost his mother because of the label, though he provided no additional details or context. Another post declared, “Mavin is going down!!!!!!,” which has fueled speculation about a serious rift between the artist and the label.

These posts have generated widespread reactions from fans and industry observers, raising questions about the future of Crayon’s relationship with Mavin Records. The authenticity of the X posts remains unclear, as there is uncertainty about whether the account was compromised. However, Crayon has continued posting normally on his Instagram page, where he recently shared information about a new venture, Olodum Entertainment, including a booking email address. This development has intensified rumours that he may be planning to part ways with Mavin Records, although no official confirmation has been given by either party.

Crayon joined Blowtime Entertainment in May 2019 and has released several songs under the Mavin umbrella since then. Mavin Records, established by Don Jazzy, is one of Nigeria’s leading music labels, known for shaping the Afrobeats genre and managing artists such as Tiwa Savage and Rema.

The situation highlights the heightened tensions that can arise in artist-label agreements, especially amid the instant public scrutiny of social media. As both parties remain silent on the matter, industry watchers are keenly attentive to any further developments that could impact Crayon’s career trajectory and Mavin Records’ operational stability. The dispute serves as a reminder of the complex dynamics within the music business, where contractual disputes often play out in the digital sphere.
