Lagos APC Leader: Sustain Ramadan Spirit Beyond Fasting

Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cornelius Ojelabi, has called on Muslims to preserve the spiritual discipline attained during Ramadan, warning against a return to harmful habits once the fasting period ends. He also stressed the importance of political participation, urging the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for future elections.

Ojelabi’s message was delivered via representative Muyideen Daramola at the party’s third annual Ramadan public lecture in Ikeja. The event, themed “Maintaining Our Spirituality After Ramadan,” gathered party members, Islamic clerics, and supporters. Ojelabi categorized fasting participants into those who completed it, those who abandoned it midway, and those who never started, expressing gratitude for the grace to witness and complete the sacred month. He described the lecture’s theme as crucial, urging attendees to internalize and sustain Ramadan’s lessons.

Moshood Mayegun, Chairman of the Ramadan Lecture Planning Committee, highlighted the programme’s successful hosting after three postponements due to party congresses, conventions, and state executive Changes. He used the platform to advocate for active civic engagement. “As we look towards 2027, we must be fully prepared. I urge everyone to mobilise their families and communities to support President Bola Tinubu,” Mayegun stated, emphasizing PVC acquisition as a critical step.

The guest speaker, AbdulRahman Lawal—Head Missioner and Imam of Nadwat Global Assembly—centered his lecture on preserving spiritual gains. He explained that Ramadan fosters righteousness, cleansing, and well-being, with its true value measured by lasting behavioural change. “The real task is to sustain these values after the fasting period,” Lawal said, advocating for consistent observance of the five daily prayers and other acts of worship. He noted that fasting cultivates discipline, empathy, and communal unity, offering prayers for peace, stability, and development in Nigeria and Lagos State.

The event underscored a dual focus: encouraging personal spiritual continuity and promoting collective political action. By linking religious reflection with voter mobilization, the APC in Lagos seeks to reinforce community engagement and electoral readiness ahead of the 2027 elections, framing both as continuous duties for believers and party loyalists.
