Champions League Quarter-Final Deciders on Wednesday

Four places in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals remain undecided, with the concluding last-16 second-leg matches scheduled for Wednesday night. This follows a Tuesday where Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Sporting Lisbon secured their progression to the tournament’s last eight.

The most advanced tie sees Bayern Munich in a commanding position after a 6-1 victory over Atalanta in the first leg in Bergamo. The German Bundesliga leaders enter the second leg as strong favorites to advance, further bolstered by the continued excellent form of striker Harry Kane.

Atletico Madrid also holds a significant advantage, having defeated Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 at home last week. Spurs now require an improbable recovery in the return match at their North London stadium to avoid elimination.

Two other ties remain delicately poised. Barcelona and Newcastle United played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at St James’ Park, leaving the Spanish and English sides evenly matched ahead of their Barcelona decider. Meanwhile, Liverpool faces a 1-0 deficit against Galatasaray but will rely on the formidable atmosphere of Anfield to overturn the result against the Turkish champions.

The quartet of teams progressing on Tuesday completed their qualification through decisive first-leg wins. Arsenal overcame Porto, Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Real Sociedad, and Sporting Lisbon emerged victorious over Manchester City.

Wednesday’s fixtures will finalize the complete quarter-final lineup, setting the stage for the next phase of Europe’s premier club competition. The outcomes will determine which powerhouses join the already-qualified teams in the draw for the last eight.
