APC South-West Congress Targets Unity, Electoral Strategy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified arrangements for its South-West Zonal Congress, set for Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos. This gathering is a key component of the party’s nationwide internal restructuring, a process approved by national leadership to fortify organisational structures ahead of the upcoming national convention and subsequent elections.

According to a joint statement from the South-West Zonal Chairman, Isaacs Kekemeke, Zonal Secretary Vincent Bewaji, and Zonal Organising Secretary Lateef Ibirogba, the congress will commence at 9:00 a.m. The leadership has urged all accredited delegates to arrive promptly and adhere strictly to the established guidelines for the exercise.

The event will convene a broad spectrum of statutory delegates, as defined by Article 12.7 of the APC constitution. This list includes the zonal chairman and former officeholders, members of the zonal executive committee, serving and former governors from the six states in the region, and current and former federal legislators. Also expected are serving and former principal officers of state Houses of Assembly, state party chairmen, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Caucus members, and other statutory delegates to the national convention.

The party has assured that comprehensive security and logistical plans are in place to accommodate the anticipated turnout. Coordination with relevant state and federal authorities is ongoing to ensure a smooth, orderly, and secure process.

This zonal congress serves multiple strategic objectives. It provides a platform to evaluate the party’s performance across the South-West geopolitical zone, which comprises Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states—a region considered a critical stronghold for the ruling party. Furthermore, the meeting aims to foster unity among diverse stakeholders and reposition the APC for improved electoral outcomes in future contests.

The wide delegate representation underscores the congress’s role as a convergence point for key political actors, grassroots mobilisers, and institutional stakeholders from the region. By reinforcing leadership structures and strengthening alliances at this zonal level, the APC seeks to present a cohesive front for the challenges of the national convention and the electoral cycle ahead. The successful execution of this restructuring is viewed as pivotal to maintaining the party’s organisational cohesion and electoral potency.
