Pastor Foluke Adeboye Recalls Disposing of Gold Valuables After Joining RCCG
A resurfaced video featuring Pastor Foluke Adeboye, wife of the prominent Nigerian cleric Pastor Enoch Adeboye, details a significant personal sacrifice she made upon joining the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). In the footage, she explains that in the early days of her faith, she disposed of her extensive collection of gold jewelry and ornaments, items she had previously cherished and even set aside for her young child.
Prior to her conversion, Pastor Foluke described a strong interest in fashion and owned multiple gold pieces. According to her account, the RCCG’s teachings at the time considered the wearing of gold and elaborate jewelry inappropriate for believers, a stance she internalized. She stated that what was once a personal passion became, in her words, “a taboo” for members.
Rather than selling or gifting the items, she made the decision to discard them entirely. “I threw everything into the lagoon,” she said in the video. She recalled that a family friend later questioned this choice, suggesting she could have given the gold to her mother to sell. She declined, stating her belief that “whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother.”
Pastor Foluke also noted that she briefly substituted gold with copper accessories, incurring significant expense on them. Despite the magnitude of the act, she affirms she holds no regrets about her decision. “What would I say I miss? Not much,” she remarked, adding, “I have already sold myself.”
