Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to pursuing reforms and attracting investment in the state’s power and maritime sectors as part of a broader strategy to stimulate economic growth.
Governor Eno made the statement upon his return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, where he accompanied President Bola Tinubu on a state visit. Speaking to Government House Correspondents at the Victor Attah International Airport, he confirmed that the trip provided an opportunity to engage with potential investors, particularly for the power sector, and expressed optimism about positive outcomes from those discussions.
He highlighted that his government has already initiated strategic measures to overhaul the state’s power infrastructure and is actively working to advance the long-planned Ibom Deep Seaport project. “We expect something good from the interaction,” the Governor said, acknowledging the complex nature of such developments. “It takes a lot of work, whether it is Ibom Deep Seaport or Power; it takes a lot of work. We have made giant strides in reforming the power sector, but it takes a while, it is not a walk in the park, it is precept upon precept.”
Governor Eno also expressed concern over the ongoing national power grid instability, underscoring his administration’s resolve to improve the situation locally. Regarding the Ibom Deep Seaport, he urged residents to remain patient, stressing that thorough processes are essential. He noted that feasibility studies for the seaport have been completed and paid for, and that his administration continues to engage with interested investors.
“We are moving inch by inch on where we ought to be on the Ibom Deep Seaport and the power sector,” he stated. “Things don’t happen overnight, but we have good engagements, and people are showing interest.”
The dual focus on reliable electricity and a functional deep seaport is central to Governor Eno’s economic vision for Akwa Ibom. Successful implementation is expected to enhance industrial activity, create jobs, and position the state as a critical hub for regional and international trade. The administration’s approach emphasizes methodical progress and sustained investor dialogue to translate these long-term infrastructure goals into tangible outcomes.
