The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has finalised arrangements for a high-profile visit by Vice President Kashim Shettima next Tuesday, during which he will formally receive Governor Dauda Lawal back into the ruling party.
State APC Chairman Tukur Danfulani Maikatako announced the plans during a stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau on Saturday. He confirmed that the Vice President, accompanied by senior national party officials, will attend the official reception for Governor Lawal.
Maikatako described Zamfara as a traditional APC stronghold and characterised Governor Lawal’s decision to rejoin the party as a testament to renewed confidence in its platform. He called on all party members across the state’s 147 wards and 14 local government areas to mobilise for the event, highlighting its importance in strengthening the party’s position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This visit is significant as it will further strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the state chairman stated. He also urged members to overcome internal divisions, stressing, “We must put factional interests behind us. The APC is one family, united by a shared vision of advancing the development of Zamfara State and Nigeria.”
Former state party chairman Lawal M. Liman echoed the call for unity, urging grassroots mobilization. He described the APC as a collective platform committed to common political goals, emphasizing the need for cohesion at the ward and local government levels.
Governor Lawal’s return to the APC marks a significant political shift. His departure from the party previously had been part of broader political realignments in the state. This reception is positioned by the party as a consolidation of its dominance in Zamfara and a strategic step toward building an formidable structure for future electoral contests.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, with the Vice President’s presence underscoring the national leadership’s focus on solidifying support in key northern states. Party officials expect the ceremony to galvanise members and project a unified front as preparations for the 2027 election cycle begin.
