Delta Police Arrest 7 More in Oramudu Sexual Assault

Delta State Police Arrest Twelve More Suspects in Oramudu Sexual Assault Case

The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven additional suspects in connection with alleged sexual assaults that occurred in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, bringing the total number in custody to fifteen.

The investigation was launched after social media videos circulated widely on Friday, depicting men sexually assaulting women during an event described by participants as a “raping festival.” The footage prompted national outrage and immediate calls for justice.

In an initial response, police arrested the alleged event organizer and four other suspects. A follow-up operation, directed by the State Commissioner of Police, involved forensic analysis of video evidence and intelligence gathering. This led to the subsequent arrest of eleven more individuals, identified as Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, and six others whose full identities are pending.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe stated that preliminary findings indicate the assaults were carried out by criminal elements who opportunistically exploited the gathering. The command firmly rejected any suggestion that the acts constituted a legitimate cultural practice.

Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola condemned the incidents in totality and emphasized the command’s commitment to prosecuting all involved. “The Delta State Police Command remains resolute in ensuring that every perpetrator is identified, arrested, and brought to book in accordance with the law,” the statement read.

Authorities are urging victims and witnesses to come forward with credible information, assuring strict confidentiality for all tips. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding gender-based violence in Nigeria and the role of social media in both documenting crimes and accelerating law enforcement responses.

The fifteen suspects are expected to face charges as investigations continue.
