Nigerian troops have maintained operational momentum across key theatres, successfully countering terrorist threats and securing areas in Borno and Imo states during the Eid-el-Fitr period, the military said in a report.
In Borno, forces under Operation Hadin Kai demonstrated reinforced control in the Ngoshe and Gwoza regions. This followed insurgent propaganda threatening to seize Ngoshe and hold prayers at its central mosque. The military responded with swift reinforcement, supported by aerial surveillance and actionable intelligence, which led to the neutralisation of several fighters and the disruption of their plans. On the day of Eid, the areas remained calm, with residents performing prayers without incident. In a deliberate act to counter terrorist narratives, troops were observed joining the Eid prayers at the Ngoshe central mosque, a move described as reinforcing government authority and normalcy.
The military commended local residents for their cooperation and vigilance, urging the public to ignore propaganda aimed at undermining security efforts. Operations are pledged to continue to consolidate these gains and pursue lasting peace.
Separately, in Imo State’s Orsu Local Government Area, troops from the 82 Division showed resilience in ongoing clearance operations. Soldiers secured several enclaves and former strongholds despite encountering multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The Chief of Army Staff, represented at a special Sallah luncheon, praised the division’s courage and sacrifices. The General Officer Commanding the 82 Division was credited with effectively coordinating support from other security services and local communities, which bolstered operational success. A delegation from the Army Chief also visited wounded soldiers in hospital, conveying messages of appreciation that further lifted morale.
The reports underscore a strategy of sustained pressure on armed groups combined with efforts to build public trust and assert state presence, even during major religious occasions. Both operations highlight an ongoing focus on dismantling insurgent capabilities while fostering community partnerships in Nigeria’s northeast and southeast regions.
