Kano State Announces School Resumption Dates After Ramadan Break
The Kano State Government has officially announced the resumption schedule for all primary and post-primary schools following the Ramadan period. The dates, aligned with the state’s approved 2025/2026 academic calendar, were communicated in a statement by Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, Director of Public Enlightenment at the State Ministry of Education.
According to the directive, students attending boarding schools are to resume on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Day students will return to classes the following day, Monday, March 23, 2026. The statement clarified that the second term will commence on the resumption date and conclude on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The Ministry’s statement mandated compliance from all public and private schools across the state, noting that failure to adhere would be considered a breach of government directive. This enforcement underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining a standardized academic schedule.
Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, urged parents and guardians to ensure their children return to school promptly at the designated times. He also extended appreciation to Kano residents for their ongoing support of the educational sector. In his message, the Commissioner wished students a successful conclusion to their Ramadan fast and a peaceful Eid al-Fitr (Sallah) celebration.
The resumption plan accounts for the annual Ramadan observances, which typically disrupt normal academic routines. By setting a clear post-holiday schedule, the state aims to minimize academic disruption and ensure instructional time is preserved as per the national calendar framework. Schools are expected to operationalize these dates immediately as part of the broader 2025/2026 academic planning.
