Defending champions Remo Stars produced a second-half comeback to secure a hard-fought 3-1 victory overKwara United in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 31 fixture at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday.
The home side found themselves trailing at halftime after Kwara United’s Ibrahim Yahaya capitalized on an opportunity to score in the 34th minute. However, Remo Stars responded emphatically in the second period. Ahmed Akinyele leveled the score, before Haruna Hadi and Victor Mbaoma added two further goals to complete the turnaround and ensure three crucial points for the title holders.
The win is a significant result for Remo Stars, who have been battling to maintain their position at the top of the league table. Head coach Usman Abd’Allah acknowledged the team’s resilience after a lapse in focus in their previous home match. “I think the plan is going on well, our main target was to win the game, get the three points because we really need the points,” Abd’Allah stated in post-match comments reported by the club’s media department. “In the last home game, we lost concentration, and nearly lost the match, but thank God we were able to manage things, and get the three points.”
The victory extends Remo Stars’ strong home form and reinforces their challenge for the NPFL title. For Kwara United, the defeat represents a setback in their own campaign, having previously upset the odds against the leaders before ultimately succumbing to the champions’ resolve.
With this result, attention now turns to Remo Stars’ next assignment, an away fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors. The team will seek to build momentum and consolidate their league standing as the season progresses toward its decisive stages.
