Katsina State Hosts 17 Foreign Envoys for Eid Cultural Events, Highlighting Development and Security Progress
Katsina State, Nigeria, hosted 17 foreign diplomats and international officials for its 2026 Eid-el-Fitri cultural celebrations, marking a significant increase from the 10 envoys who attended the previous year. The delegation, which included ambassadors from Belgium, Egypt, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Argentina, Congo, and Italy, alongside representatives from the United Nations and international investors, arrived on March 17, 2026.
Governor Dikko Radda personally welcomed the visitors at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport and accompanied them throughout their multi-day itinerary. The program combined traditional cultural displays with visits to state development projects. Highlights included the Katsina Durbar, a historic horse-riding procession from 28 districts, and the Hawan Magajiya ceremony in Daura. Diplomats also toured the Katsina Agricultural Mechanization Centre, the state-of-the-art Dialysis Centre, and the uncommissioned Dumurkul Smart Secondary School—part of a new initiative providing free, technology-focused education in rural areas.
The delegation visited the ancient Kusugu Well in Daura, a heritage site estimated to be over 2,000 years old. Throughout their stay, diplomats moved freely across the state, a reflection of improved security conditions. Authorities attribute this to community-based security initiatives like the Katsina Community Watch Corps and integrated conflict-resolution strategies, though they acknowledge that challenges with armed groups persist in some regions.
Governor Radda presented an overview of his administration’s development record, citing statewide community needs assessments, the distribution of subsidised fertiliser and tractors, completion of hundreds of schools, recruitment of thousands of teachers, healthcare infrastructure upgrades, and the clearance of inherited pension liabilities. These efforts, he noted, align with a strategy to attract investment and partnership.
Following the visit, diplomats expressed interest in pursuing collaborations in education, agriculture, food security, small enterprise development, women’s empowerment, and technology. The increased diplomatic participation—from 10 to 17 attendees—is being interpreted by state officials as growing international confidence in Katsina’s trajectory.
The 2026 events positioned Katsina’s cultural heritage as a diplomatic asset while foregrounding tangible progress in infrastructure, healthcare, and education as key drivers of its renewed engagement with the international community.
