A Special Assistant to the Governor of Jigawa State has resigned to pursue an elective office, in an early sign of political positioning ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Honourable Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim Sansani, who served as Special Assistant on Small Town Water Supply to Governor Umar Namadi, stepped down from his role. In a resignation letter dated March 25, 2026, and addressed through the Secretary to the State Government, Sansani thanked the governor for the opportunity and highlighted his administration’s efforts to enhance water infrastructure in rural communities. He also acknowledged the support of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during his tenure.
While Sansani did not specify which position he intends to contest, political observers interpret his move as part of the preliminary jockeying for the 2027 electoral cycle. Prior to his state appointment, Sansani was active in regional politics and serves as National President of the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum, an organisation mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu across Nigeria’s nineteen northern states.
The Jigawa State Government had not issued an official statement on the resignation at the time of reporting. However, sources indicate that more political appointees are expected to follow suit in the coming months. This trend aligns with a recent presidential directive encouraging political officeholders with elective ambitions to resign, and reflects the standard practice as parties commence preparations for primaries and the 2027 polls.
Sansani’s departure underscores the increasing tempo of political activities well ahead of the elections, as appointed officials begin to align with party structures and constituency campaigns.
