Bluesky has introduced a long-requested drafts feature in its latest update, allowing users to save posts for later completion before publishing. The functionality, part of the mobile app’s v1.116 update released Monday, addresses a basic tool available on competing platforms like X and Threads.
To save a draft, users can either tap “Cancel” while composing a post and select “Save Draft” from the popup, or use a new “Drafts” button beside the “Post” button. Saved drafts are accessed by opening the composition window and tapping the same “Drafts” button, where they can be edited or deleted. The update also adds autoplaying GIFs and new welcome screen artwork to the app.
The addition follows user calls for more fundamental posting tools. In a January roadmap, Bluesky acknowledged the need to implement features like drafts, alongside plans for longer videos, faster uploads, and multi-photo posts. Despite a slower rollout of such features compared to rivals, Bluesky’s user base grew significantly in 2025, nearly doubling from 25 million to 41 million users, according to its recent Transparency Report.
The drafts feature signals Bluesky’s ongoing effort to improve core functionality as it scales. For a platform focused on decentralised social networking, matching baseline user expectations remains key to sustaining its growth momentum.
