Ondo State Security Agency Rescues Five Kidnap Victims in Separate Operations
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, operating through its paramilitary Amotekun Corps, has secured the release of five individuals abducted in two distinct incidents within Akure South Local Government Area.
According to a statement from Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, the first incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday. At approximately 2 a.m., assailants arrived in a large bus and forcibly entered the Oke-Ijebu health center, located opposite the Mega School in Akure metropolis. The attackers abducted three health workers who were on night duty.
In a separate but related incident, a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son were kidnapped at Pelebe, an outlying area along the Oda Akure Road, between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
Commander Adeleye confirmed that both situations were resolved through coordinated operations by the Amotekun Rapid Response Squad. The rescue of the father and son occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday following a “heavy confrontation” with the kidnappers. The three health workers were freed later, at approximately 4:30 a.m. All five victims are now in stable condition, with the health workers receiving medical attention at an Amotekun-operated facility.
The Amotekun Corps, a state-established security initiative common in Nigeria’s southwestern region, frequently conducts operations against criminal elements. This rescue underscores ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, a persistent security challenge in parts of Nigeria.
Commander Adeleye emphasized that ensuring public safety remains a paramount objective for the Ondo State Government. He urged community members to continue supplying timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that collective vigilance is essential for sustaining safety across the state. No arrests were announced in connection with the abductions, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
