Nollywood actress Motilola Akinlami has formally ended a six-year professional dispute with prominent film producer Kunle Afod, marking a notable reconciliation within the Nigerian entertainment sector. The announcement was confirmed during a recent interview with actor and broadcaster Tony Montana.
Akinlami and Afod first publicly parted ways in 2024 amid allegations of industry interference. At the time, the actress stated that Afod restricted her access to acting roles following her departure from his production company, a split she attributed to personal tensions involving Afod’s spouse. The disagreement subsequently moved to digital platforms, where Akinlami publicly addressed her concerns, drawing attention across Yoruba-language cinema networks.
Speaking about the resolution, Akinlami expressed regret over the public escalation, noting the professional and emotional strain the prolonged conflict caused. “The conflict involved someone I respected deeply, and it was painful to see it reach a stage where public exchanges became necessary,” she stated. “Through the guidance of senior colleagues, the matter has been settled. We appreciate Femi Adebayo and Bayo Tijani for their consistent efforts to restore peace.” She also acknowledged the role of other veteran industry figures and personal faith in facilitating the agreement.
The mediation process relied on established Nollywood professionals who routinely assist with informal dispute resolution in Nigeria’s film community. Akinlami confirmed that all outstanding issues between her and Afod have been addressed, though specific details regarding future collaborations or revised professional boundaries were not disclosed. Afod’s representatives have not issued a separate public statement regarding the development.
The reconciliation highlights the continued reliance on veteran mediators to navigate professional conflicts within Nigeria’s film industry. By prioritizing private dialogue and structured negotiations, both parties have signaled a return to standard industry operations. Akinlami indicated she is prepared to resume full professional activities, reflecting a broader sector emphasis on workplace stability and the preservation of professional relationships in a highly collaborative entertainment market.
